Where Would You Go if You Didn’t Have to Start from Here?
As mentioned in a previous blog post, TEDxSinCity is the brainchild of a mastermind group called The Trust. We’d formed this weekly mastermind session to break out of the mold of focusing strictly on business and to inspire each other to reach our Bigger Game goals, pursue our passions and find our missions. When it was suggested we should do a TEDx of our own, everyone instantly said, “Yes!” and we immediately began conspiring on when/where/how/who/what.
We bandied on the theme a little, but it seemed pretty obvious from the beginning. There’s not a single member of this mastermind that isn’t completely fascinated by modern-day evolution, the kind that we see emerging primarily in the memetic structure of society. (Or, in other words, the thoughts we accept as a whole and rarely question.) These thoughts, paradigms, perspectives, memes… whatever you want to call them, are incredibly powerful and dominate us far more than the ‘people in power’ we frequently like to blame for all the world’s problems.
I guess one could make an argument that the ‘people in power’ have more control over status quo paradigms, but from where I stand they engage in just as fragile a tug-of-war as does the common man. In fact, they may experience MORE subservience due to the pressure of millions of eyes waiting for these public figures to offend one of these memes… and then off with their heads.
But who really cares about the messenger when you’re face-to-face with the king? If our lives are controlled, dominated, and molded by these memes, then wouldn’t it be better to reevaluate the memes, themselves, than to spend so much time and energy looking for leaders who simply do the best job of repackaging them back to us?
That’s the line of reasoning that gave birth to perhaps the most provocative question I’ve heard in years: Where would you go if you didn’t have to start from here? If you could shake your mind up like a snow globe and suddenly not have to care about the limitations you take for granted, the beliefs that keep you shackled to the same results over and over again… what would you do?
Where would you go if you didn’t have to start from here?
That’s the point of this TEDx. Our theme is based upon revolutionizing both what we think and how we think. Replacing the infrastructure of our minds as a society so that suddenly we’re in control of the system, not controlled by it. Becoming masters, not victims.
Get ready to have your brain shaken like a snow globe.
